Dear Department Heads, Professors, Cultural Center Directors, and Student Leaders,
It is in the spirit of goodwill, activism, and hopes of potential change that we write to you today.
In response to recent events regarding Carolyn Luby’s “Open Letter to President Susan Herbst” and the subsequent backlash, student organizing has become essential and widespread.
We write to you today to cordially invite you, your peers, and your colleagues to participate in a Silent Protest Against Violence, Sexual Assault, and Hate Speech. The protest will take place on Tuesday, May 7, at 2:00pm, starting at the Student Union on Fairfield Way. We are asking participants and supporters who cannot attend to wear purple to demonstrate unity.
For further details on this event, please see the attached document.
Please feel free to forward this message to your students, colleagues, social justice activists, and any other communities of which you may be a part.
This movement is about visibility and solidarity, and we sincerely thank you for your continued, unwavering support.
Peace and Justice,
Martina Powell, Lauren Todd, and many WGSS Students
